Not a One Time Event

Well…….. here we are once again talking about something that should be automatic.  I saw something posted yesterday that had me thinking about the way we approach things in church, life, jobs etc.  I know that this blog doesn’t pertain to everyone or every church, workplace or family.  I have saw a lot of youth groups going to youth camp, and churches doing VBS including my church.  One of the problems with all of those things is we hype young people up for a once a summer event and they come back either pumped at an experience they had or they come back with more questions than they went with. All the while the adults are basking in the joy of said campers, not really fully understanding what their needs are.  Here again I understand that not everyone is like this so please don’t throw rocks at me, just hear me out, because I’m just as guilty. Most young people now days from elementary school age to high school age attend church on their own by way of a friend or church transportation, which means most parents don’t attend unless it’s a special occasion. Why does that matter? It matters because those said kids don’t have the stability that others might, and when they come back from camp or revival or VBS they are going back into instability which is part of why they attended those events in the first place. Yes, I have a point to this, and my point is, don’t just invest time once a year, make it an ongoing investment, because we are not investing in our future, but rather investing in the present.  Lilliana is constantly learning and seeking wisdom and knowledge of everything. Lymon and I are always trying to fulfill her thirst for knowledge. I know most of this has been about church, but we can apply this to every part of our life.  In the workplace if you have someone new don’t just give them the a list and say you will figure it out as you go along. Some people can’t do that, because they have never had someone in their life to encourage them.    I do not have an exact plan for any of this, but I do believe that we need to take more time with people especially our young people, this world can be a cruel place.  Thank you as always for your support in reading my blogs and giving feedback when you are able.   Love, JPH
